There are different sorts of stair lifts available in the markets which are designed to match the requirements of different individuals.

Stair lifts are installed by professionally trained engineers. These engineers take a survey of the location where the stair lifts have to be installed, and then they create a feasibility report and suggest the best suited stair lift for the location. These engineers supervise the installation of the stair lift to ensure safety and security of the user.

Mainly, a stair lift consists of a platform attached to a metal rail. This platform is supplied with several types of motors which assist it in moving across the rail. The platform could be changed with different seating or standing arrangements as per the consumer's requirements. A large number of designs of stair lifts are available in the markets which have different types of platform and rail mechanisms.

A usual construction consists of a chair and a well mounted wall rail. This rail gives the base for the chair to be in motion with the help of different motors with as little effort as possible. These stair lifts are also identified handicap lifts, since they were formerly designed for the disabled to provide them assistance in move up and down the stairs with no any help from anyone.

The whole machinery works on electrical power supply provided to it either by rechargeable batteries or with the assistance of a steady supply of electricity transferred to it by means of cables. A few stair lifts which are fixed outdoors have their own external power supply unit which is usually fixed by an engineer provided by the company.

Furthermore there are stair lifts which consist of a big platform where one can easily park the wheelchair, and it lifts the individual along with the wheelchair much like an ordinary elevator. This kind of stair lift is mainly beneficial in cases where the person is incapable of lifting himself from the wheelchair, and hence is transported along with the wheelchair.

There are stair lifts which are installed with a fixed platform with a small support for the consumer to be able to stand. These stair lifts are designed for people who are able to stand with a little support, and do not require a seating arrangement to climb the stairs.

Due to the versatile construction of the stair lifts, they can even be fitted into the tightest spots. They can fit well in narrow stair cases, and in places where it would be impossible to install an elevator. There are different stair lifts for indoor and outdoor usage. The ones which have been designed for outdoor use are provided with a weather protected shielding on the mechanical parts to prevent any damage from rain or other climatic conditions.
